Podfic Permissions Post

For Round 5 of the Rigel Black Exchange, participants may now offer and request podfic! For the exchange, we ask that would-be podficcers make sure they have the author's permission to pod their work. Some authors may already have a blanket permissions statement in their profile that gives this permission; for example, here's mine:

I'm giving blanket permission for recursive/transformative fanworks, podfic, and translations of any of my works. Please use the related works to link back! 💜

For authors that don't have a permissions statement on their profile — or for those who do and simply want to promote their works as potentially podficcable — this post is where you can opt in and give permission to have your fics podficced for this round of the exchange.

To opt in, simply comment below with your AO3 username and which works you are giving permission to podfic (this can be all of your RBC works, or only a certain subset of them.)

Round 5 Signups

Signups for Round 5 have just opened, and will remain open until 23:59 CDT (UTC-5) on October 15th. (Here's a handy countdown timer.)

Requests are visible; you may freely edit your signup until signups close.

You can find the signup form here. You need a minimum of 3 requests and a minimum of 4 offers, and must choose whether you want to receive and create fanfic, fanart, and/or podfic.

A full explanation of what is required in your signup can be found in the FAQ. If you have any questions, feel free to ask on Discord or comment on this post.

Also, if your desired character(s) are not in the tagset, you may nominate it yourself (nominations remain open throughout signups) or let me know and I'll fix it.

What's new this round?
Firstly: you can now offer and request podfic :D Minimums for podfic are a complete and edited podfic of a fic that is originally at least 1000 words, OR a complete and edited podfic of at least 10 minutes (whichever comes first); OR a newly written, complete story of at least 500 words and a complete and edited podfic thereof.

Those requesting podfic may wish to check out this guide on requesting podfic. Also, please tell your potential podficcers whether you would be okay with your own works being podficced to fill your request.

Those looking to podfic others' work should make sure they have permission; you can always check the author's AO3 profile page to see if they have a blanket permissions statement, or there's also a podfic permissions post here on the dreamwidth that authors can comment on to say they're giving permission for their works to be podficced. Or you can always ask the author directly in a comment!

Given the difficulties of anonymizing a podfic, podficcers may essentially ignore the usual requirements of not giving away your identity in your work. (For instance, you may include your handle in the intro to the podfic.) If you wish to anonymize your podfic in some fashion, you may, but you are not required to.

The other new thing this round is that we're doing a trial run of a specific form of crossover requests: crossovers with the original Harry Potter canon (ex. requesting Original Canon Severus Snape & RBC Severus Snape) or the original Tortall canon. (Crossovers with any other canon remain optional prompts only.) In order to nominate original canon characters, please nominate in the form "Original Canon [character name]" under the fandom Original Canon Harry Potter Characters (Disambiguated for Organizational Purposes). For original canon Tortall characters, nominate "Original Canon [character name]" under the fandom Original Canon Tortall Characters (Disambiguated for Organizational Purposes)

For the sake of clarity: any character that is not listed as "Original Canon _____" is the RBC (or RBC recursive) version of that character. "Albus Dumbledore" thus refers to the Albus Dumbledore that appears in RBC. To request/offer Albus Dumbledore from the original HP canonverse, you would need to request/offer "Original Canon Albus Dumbledore," along with whichever RBC or RBC recursive characters you wished Original Canon Albus Dumbledore to interact with, under either the RBC fandom or the RBC recursive fandom of your choice. (Don't actually request the Original Canon _____ Characters (Disambiguated for Organizational Purposes) fandoms themselves, please; they're just there to help organize the tagset.)
